Can Uber and Lyft last long enough to make it to driverless cars?:

Uber and Lyft are heavily dependent on drivers whose wages make up a significant portion of their losses last year – both lose money on each ride. And there isn’t much to reduce as drivers get as little as 60 cents a mile in Southern California, only 2 cents more than the IRS reimbursement rate.

Lyft wants to begin providing self-driving ride-hailed trips on the app within 5 years – 2024. A majority of its trips within 10 years – 2029 and 5 years after that to have “purpose-built” driverless vehicles for on long-haul journeys.
