Cruise hoped to get to “a bit better than human” levels on these. For high severity events, the VTTI study suggested that was around 280,000 miles per incident, and for serious property damage crashes, around 100K miles per incident. (In the real world, accidents get reported to the police only every 500K miles. In the real world, a lot of accidents never get reported to police, or even insurance companies.)
The leaks report Cruise have only surpassed a lower rate of about 3,000 miles per high severity level 1 event and have not yet reached their text milestone of 10,000 miles for both high and low severity (levels 1 and 2) events.
In addition, they had very high goals for total miles driven – close to a million per month. They are possibly at less than a 10th of that (only numbers from 2018 are available.)
