Tesla vaunts creation of ‘the best chip in the world’ for self-driving | TechCrunch
Tesla switched over from Nvidia’s Drive platform to its own custom chip (FSDC) for the Model S and X about a month ago and for the Model 3 about 10 days ago,
The FSDC consists of two duplicate systems right next to each other on one board.
CPU has lockstep and a security layer. Full board has 144TOPS at 100W (two processors).
14nm fabrication process rather than the sub-10nm process others have chosen
This is compared to the Pegasus with 320TOPS at 500W,
Next-generation chips one would be x3 better than the current system and was about two years away.
